Hi y’all, I’ve been attempting to navigate family-laden holidays with the girlfriend in tow. It’s been fun and time-consuming.
Also, I’ve been consuming tons of chocolate and booze, sometimes simultaneously.
What I’m really trying to say is I hope you all had/are having a very Merry Solstichristmakwanzikah, and be safe over the New Year’s weekend! Be good to each other and make good resolutions. I’ll tell you mine if you tell me yours!

Your favorite scary cheerleading coach is out, and I do believe she just got married awhile ago. I love her. She’s nothing but funny and she’s been in EVERYTHING – a ton of rad mockumentaries, The L Word (where she was awesome and got to rock lots of power suits), and of course, Glee. She hosts award shows and is totally badass. Seriously.
Man, I love watching crime shows. I especially love Criminal Minds, because they have HER! Kirsten Vangsness is a really funny lady, plus she plays an awesome computer whiz/hacker type. Her outfits make me smile and, if you google her, she dresses as flamboyantly in real life too! AMAZING. And there’s also this:
You can’t tell me that’s not awesome. I mean, redhead, activist, attractive, glasses… COME ON.
Yes, Darlene is gay. And she is also dating Linda Perry which is pretty rad. And she’s a pretty awesome human. SERIOUSLY. Is anyone else really glad she doesn’t dress like she did on Roseanne anymore? I know I am.
Oh, favorite bit character on The L Word, also Cybil Shepard’s daughter, also AWESOME. And hot, let’s not forget hot. Just look at that lady. There’s no way you can say she’s not hot. If you do we’ll fight.
Sexy photographer who dated Ellen DeGeneres at one time. Do I really need to elaborate?
Oh look, it’s everyone’s favorite awkward girl/plucky sidekick! Also she had a probably-totally-gratuitous death scene in the second Hostel film. I love how well she nails the “best friend” role, and I really want her to be MY best friend (apologies to my actual best friends)
Okay, if this woman isn’t simultaneously the hottest AND luckiest woman ever, then I am clearly in the wrong line of existence. I love her, and I love her wife. This is the only instance in which I would support polygamist marriage. And I think that’s an okay thing.
Talk about your favorite gender-bender, Jenny Shimizu is totally mine. She looks damn fine in a tux, plus she possibly may have theoretically allegedly dated Angelina Jolie. So really, she’s pretty great. She also models and does some other great stuff.
Amber Heard (I HAVE TO INCLUDE HER AGAIN)
Slight obsession with her, GET OVER IT. Apparently she’s also single, so I may have to start thinking of really good apologies to send my girlfriend. And also start raising bail money for staying out of jail for stalking. (Kidding!?)

California redeemed itself today.
Read all about it here.
This is bittersweet for me, because it’s still only one more state, meaning one more place I would have to go and live forever, otherwise my marriage wouldn’t be recognized.

So hey, here’s a radical idea for that whole “charitable and giving” sentiment that’s floating around this time of year:
HELP OTHER PEOPLE. Who? How about this guy, who got the crap kicked out of him because he’s gay?
You can always donate to a coats for needy kids program, or donate toys to needy toys. Volunteer in a soup kitchen. Buy some turkeys for a food pantry. Some thrift stores have programs in place that help charities, such as the Goodwill chain and Savers. If you want to be a personal hero of mine, check out Heifer International or Oxfam or Water.org
Do I realize times are tough and other such platitudes? Of course I do, I’m not exactly rolling in dough over here. But I do know that there is a wealth of good to be felt in donating, and in helping people who really need it. Some people always have it a lot worse, and while that may not be especially comforting, it’s an unfortunate truth.
The flipside of this is that we can DO something about this. Check out the links above, talk to people about charities or helping others, just do what you can. It matters.

So, Regis Philbin departed that one show he’s been on for like forever. To fill in there have been some cool celebrities that people actually care about, like Neil Patrick Harris. Apparently something happened where he was sucking helium and mentioned that he “sounds like a tranny” or something.
Why is this not okay?
Okay, brace yourselves. It’s not okay in the same way saying “ni****” is not okay. It’s not okay in the same way saying “faggot” is not okay. It’s an offensive term and it’s hurtful and rude. I don’t care if that guy with the mohawk on Glee says it a lot, or if you’re a friend of a trans* person or what, it’s not cool.
I have my own story about the word “tranny”, which demonstrates the only appropriate use of the term EVER. I took a women’s studies class awhile ago (yes just one now HUSH), and I was talking about something being wrong with the transmission in my car. I mentioned swapping out the “tranny fluid” and actually unfortunately, someone got really riled up until I explained the context. (It is only appropriate to say “tranny” in abbreviation of the word “transmission”, as in “gear shifting thing in your car”. REMEMBER THIS)
The thing is that I couldn’t understand what the problem was, because I didn’t know at the time that I was saying offensive things. I know it now, and I’m trying to stay open to these learning moments, because there’s no point in making someone else’s life harder than it already is, right? Right.

If you have any questions there’s a wealth of resources on the internet. Through a gloriously quick search I found a few things for you, it’s like I’m here to help you or something…. Anyway everyone, read some of these things and take it to heart that words actually cause a lot of harm sometimes, so think about what you say.
